Past King Georges in Hamilton (West End & Broadway)

Long may they reign!
He may have little stage time (9 minutes, with 6 of those minutes sung), but his British Invasion-inspired songs, paired with his over-the-top cape-flipping, make this loony monarch a complete standout. In honour of Daniel Boys (Hamilton UK Tour) taking over the role of King George III in the West End production, let's have a royal rundown of the past King Georges across the world!
1. Jonathan Groff (Broadway OG)
Known for his work in Spring Awakening and as the voice of Kristoff in Frozen, Groff set the gold standard for the role when Hamilton premiered on Broadway in 2015. His piercing stare and iconic spittle make him the King in the minds of many fans, he even reprised his role in the Disney+ pro-shot of Hamilton.
2. Rory O'Malley (Broadway)
Although Rory had big shoes (and a big crown) to fill following on from Groff on Broadway, the Book of Mormon brought an extra level of snark and charm to the role, and later went on to play the monarch in in Hamilton's first U.S. national tour as well!
3. Michael Jibson (West End)
The Olivier-winning king became London's first when Hamilton finally made its way across the pond. His version was dry, witty and oh-so-British, proving that King George is a hit worldwide!
4. Euan Morton (Broadway & Touring The Scottish King)
Euan Morton, a Scottish-born performer known for his work in Taboo, ruled both Broadway and the U.S. tour of Hamilton with a mix of regal menace and winking mischief. His accent and comedic timing gave the role a distinct charm, showing that even a historical British monarch could have a bit of Scottish flair!
5. Andrew Rannells (Broadway)
Though his reign was short, it was sweet. Another Book of Mormon alum, Andrew Rannells, briefly ruled the Hamilton stage in 2017. Known for his powerhouse vocals and comedic chops, Rannells kept the role delightfully over-the-top and hilarious.
